Right now education is making a huge shift towards student centered learning. We need to let our students learn to make their own decisions regarding the best interests of their own education. The list of tools found here is a great way to get started. These tools also offer ways to create, collaborate, use critical thinking skills, and communicate (the 4 C's all in one)! I suggest reading about all the tools and selecting one that seems a natural fit for your classroom.
Richard Byrne is a former teacher who now writes a blog and speaks at events all over the world on educational technology topics. He has posted all the screencast videos he has created over the years to share with the world. I invite to check this website out because you can find many tips and tricks here.
Thinking of flipping your classroom or already have? MoocNote helps you build your video library from YouTube, Dropbox, or Google Drive. This tool could also help you assist students who are absent. If they miss a day you could record your lesson and use MoocNote to write notes on your video to help your students follow along.
Ever wonder what something looked like throughout history? Now you don't have to! Your students (and of course you as well) can take a virtual tour through time. I must admit I found myself exploring this tool quite a bit! There is even an iPad/iPhone app that will detect your location and provide you with any photographs taken there. You can also switch into Camera view to get an augmented reality experience of the history that surrounds you. This is a must see if you wish to travel through time.
Here are several great literacy tools if you are looking to expand your horizons! WriteReader looks like it has some amazing capabilities. For example, students can create stories by recording & transcribing voices or correcting typed sentences.
Google has recently updated Street View to include some pretty amazing places. Take your students to Kenya and walk alongside the elephants. The new update includes Samburu National Reserve, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, and the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. In the new imagery you can see elephants, zebras, lions, leopards, and more. This would be a great resource when teaching about biomes!
Want some tips on how to better utilize Google? Look no further! Google presented seven apps you need to know about including Google Tips which gives you helpful hints to streamline your Google experience. There is also Google Keep which lets you create digital sticky notes!
